Russell T. McLaughlin – Partner

A resident of Avon, Russ McLaughlin has been engaged in the practice of law in the Lorain and Cuyahoga County areas since 1974. He obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Cleveland State University in 1971 and his degree of Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1974. During law school, he served on the Moot Court team and the Moot Court Board.

In addition to the general practice of law, Russ has served as Special Counsel for two Ohio attorneys general, assistant prosecutor in the Lorain Municipal Court, Magistrate for the Lorain Municipal Court, acting judge in the Avon Lake and Lorain Municipal Courts, Law Director for the City of Avon, Special Counsel for the cities of Avon and Elyria, and counsel to the Avon Charter Review Commission.

His teaching experience includes real estate law and business law courses at the Lorain County Community College, the Lorain Business College and the Ohio Paralegal Institute and he has been a presenter at bar association seminars on probate and estate planning subjects.

Russ is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Lorain County Bar Association and the Florida Bar. He is privileged to have a rating of AV in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, which is the highest peer review rating given for legal ability and ethical standards.

He is currently serving as a director on several boards, including The Community Foundation of Lorain County, Northeastern Professional Family Services, Inc. and the Avon Women's Club Student Loan Fund.

His practice areas include:

  • Business law, including business formation, acquisition, conversion, sale and succession, contracts, and general business matters
  • Estate planning, including the review and recommendation of alternate plans, drafting of trusts, wills, powers of attorney and other documents
  • Probate law, the administration and settlement of descendants estates and trusts, as well as probate litigation
  • Real estate law, including residential and commercial real estate transactions, easements, zoning, planning, real estate development work and real estate litigation
